Class Note 2014

Issue

November-December 2023

Congratulations to our new and continuing class officers: Amber Porter (president), Katherine Cima (vice president, community), Anoush Arakelian (vice president, communications), Jessica Womack (vice president, service), Malcolm Leverett (treasurer), and Sarah Rossow (secretary).

Many thanks to outgoing co-secretary John Daniels, who for the past two years has been invaluable in helping to revive the 2014 Class Notes. I now take on the daunting task of continuing as your sole secretary for the next five years! Please keep the updates coming!

Bing Guan writes in: “I’ve been working as a full-time freelance photojournalist since 2019 for clients including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Time, Bloomberg, and Reuters. In August I completed my first artist residency at the Ucross Foundation in Wyoming. I moved back to N.Y.C. at the end of 2022 and will be starting an M.F.A. in photography, video, and related media at the School of Visual Arts. I’d love to (re)connect with any Dartmouth alums in the city, especially if anyone needs to hire a photographer!”

Following on her research as assistant professor of geography and urban studies at Temple University, Celeste Winston is the author of the forthcoming book How to Lose the Hounds: Maroon Geographies and a World Beyond Policing, which will be released November 3 by Duke University Press.

Gaby Stern married Thatcher Foster on June 3 in the Hudson Valley, New York.

Wenjing Chen married Tony Dong on May 20 at the Skylark in New York City, with Eileen Hu-wang as a bridesmaid. The couple first met in med school, and Wenjing is currently completing an endocrinology fellowship at NYU.

Amanda “Spo” Spoto writes, “Johnathan James Recor, MALS’11 (aka, ‘The Sun God’), and I were married on October 13, 2019, at the Park Chateau in East Brunswick, New Jersey. We met at Dartmouth in fall 2010, which means he’s had to deal with me for nearly 13 years now! After working at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP as an intellectual property/entertainment paralegal for three and a half years, I developed an interest in a career in big law and intellectual property law. I graduated from New York Law School cum laude in May. This fall I will be returning to the firm I worked at last year as a summer associate in New York City.”

Finally, congratulations to Kelly Brait on tackling, completing, and receiving a coveted belt buckle in “one of the most challenging bike races in the world,” the Leadville Trail 100 mountain bike race. Known as the “Race Across the Sky,” the Colorado trail includes rough terrain, majestic views, and about 12,000 feet of elevation gain!

Thank you to everyone who sent in updates! Enjoy the upcoming holiday season, and I look forward to receiving and sharing more news and notes in 2024!
