Class Note 2014
Issue
November-December 2021
Hello ’14s! Sarah and I hope you’ve had a fantastic fall. Wedding season is in full gear as I write this, and there are many special occasions to provide updates on.
Andrew Roberts and Maddie Garcia were married on July 24 in Warren, New Jersey, and there was a Big Green crew more than 20 strong to help celebrate. Another dual Dartmouth couple, Katherine Hickey and Robert King, tied the knot on August 14 in Sea Island, Georgia, where an amazing fireworks show followed. Izzy Terhorst and Sam Philip were married in beautiful Manchester, Vermont, on August 7. Kelley Bloomer and Brendan Cronin ’15 chose the same special day but a bit further north in Stowe, Vermont, where they were greeted with a lucky bolt of lightning as they recited their vows. Michael Saltzman and Sarah Phillips were married in Sag Harbor, New York, on July 24. Nick Judson and Leila Pikus said “I do” on June 26 in Suffield, Connecticut, where Will Scheiman led the ceremony as officiant.
Tyler Bradford and Jojo Miller were engaged in August and will soon add to our ever-growing list of class of 2014 married couples. Lilly Maguire is recently engaged to Ryan Hockstad. They are planning their 2022 wedding in Washington, D.C., where the couple lives. Bridesmaids include fellow Dartmouth rowers Anna Harty, Morgan Weller, Juliet Hollingsworth, Molly Leen ’15, and Gianna Guarino ’15. Roger Melick and Meg Tomlinson got engaged in June and recently welcomed a sweet dog-ter named Chili into their family. Ross Collins proposed to Hayley Brown ’15 on a pristine July summer day in Hanover.
Luke Suydam and Caroline Steffen welcomed their son, John Anderson Suydam, into the world on August 14. The family is doing great and can’t wait until little John gets to visit campus!
Amelia Acosta shared an exciting update after arriving back in the United States from Tokyo: “For all of you who have ever dreamed of making it to the Olympic Games with a complete lack of athletic talent, I’m here to represent you! I lead the track-and-field research efforts for NBC Sports, which involves preparing and supporting our on-air talent and broader production team with athlete information, statistics, key storylines, and editorial guidance for all things track and field. This summer I spent three weeks in Eugene, Oregon, for the U.S. Olympic trials and then on to Tokyo for the Games themselves. It feels cliché to say but this was an Olympic experience unlike any other—strict Covid-19 protocols meant extremely limited spectators in the stands, regular testing, and a 14-day ‘soft quarantine.’ I can’t say enough about the Olympic committee staff and volunteers at our venue who managed every part of this extremely complicated endeavor with diligence and kindness, and I also can’t say enough about the athletes who produced world records and incredible moments of camaraderie (Google ‘high jumpers share gold’) and who handled the inevitable heartbreak with incomprehensible strength. I am biased, but there is no better Olympic sport than track and field and there are few cities more thrilling than Tokyo. At the end of quarantine I was able to get out for a few delicious bowls of ramen, and I absolutely can’t wait to be back and truly explore.”
