Class Note 1994

Issue

January-February 2025

Hello, fellow ’94s—Sean Kinney here.

I have signed up to be the class secretary for our class. Laura Davis has had the job for several years now and has earned the right to retire from the role. I will now manage the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine column. I want to thank her for her guidance to me and dedication to the role and our class.

It was great to see so many of you in Hanover back in June. Once we returned to the campus, time and memories came flooding back. I think we all experienced lots of nostalgia—including many who spent time hanging out on their former Greek house porch and rocking their ’94 jerseys deep into Saturday night!

If one had to think of a musician or band that captures our four years at Dartmouth, for me it would be Pearl Jam. I think all of you could easily sing the words to “Alive” and “Jeremy.” It is crazy to think their album Ten had its release date at the start of our sophomore year, 33 years ago. Pearl Jam just finished their tour with a couple nights at Boston’s Fenway Park. Neil Smith, John Merhige, Bill Barton, Gregg Frame, Dave Angeramo,John Schneider ’96, and I were at the final concert and night of the tour. I hope many more of the Dartmouth ’94 Boston crew were in the audience. Eddie Vedder and the boys still bring it. The show was an even flow of their ’90s classics and their new album (it rocks).

All the way across the country, closer to the other ocean and far more impressive, is Dan Polta. Dan was recently named school superintendent of the year in the state of Alaska. He has served as superintendent of the Denali Borough school district for almost a decade. He will represent the state in the national conference of superintendents in the spring of 2025. No word if fellow Alaskan Tom Douglas was involved and tipped the scales in his favor.

I would enjoy connecting or hearing from as many of you as possible. Why go through the effort? More input from you leads to better output in the ’94 column. Please reach out with updates on your life, family, location, career, or anything else you think your classmates would like to know or even just to say “Hello.”
