Class Note 1987

Issue

January-February 2025

I have just returned from a beautiful fall day in Hanover and a luncheon in honor of Crystal Crawford. On the evening of October 25, as part of the 229th meeting of the Dartmouth Alumni Council, Crystal was presented with a Dartmouth Alumni Award in recognition of her tireless efforts to advance equity and justice for the most vulnerable in our society. Classmates in attendance included Tracey Salmon-Smith, Tom Palisi, and Sarah Woodberry. The next day our class sponsored a luncheon at the Hanover Inn in Crystal’s honor, which was attended by Sharon Daughtry, Tim Parker, Maurice Holmes, Derrick Lopez, Anne Schnader, and Christen (Fitzpatrick) Townsend, along with Crystal’s father, brother, and nephew and many friends and supporters from the College community. It was a very welcome opportunity for us to express our appreciation to Crystal for her contributions to Dartmouth and to our class.

After my most recent outreach for news, Sam Semon kindly provided an update: “I’ve transitioned from my previous position with NBCUniversal to Amazon MGM Studios, where I am the head of international business affairs. Basically, I run the business negotiating teams that acquire underlying rights, talent, and production services to produce original film and television content in 17 countries and 23 languages outside of the United States. I am based in Los Angeles but the work takes me far and wide. I regret not taking Professor Rassias’ classes more seriously, as I could use about five languages at this stage. I do a bit of guest lecturing now and then at University of California, Los Angeles, University of Southern California, and my other alma mater, Arizona State University Law, and otherwise spend as much time with my wife, Alicia, as I can. And I sleep—as much and as often as I can. I’m in a constant state of jetlag, even at home, so sleeping is my hobby.”

Jill Levy sends word that she and a group of classmates were able to meet up in the Berkshires in August. Jill was joined by Cory Mann, Klare (Greenberg) Feldman, Lisa Newcomb, Robin DeAugustinis, and Pam Gordon. Per Jill, “Pam generously offered a family vacation house for our get-together. It was a great time, and this is still an incredible group of women!”

Pam Metzger was recently profiled in The Dallas Morning News, focusing on her ongoing work in the area of criminal justice reform. Pam is currently a professor at the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law and is the executive director of the school’s Deason Criminal Justice Reform Center. Metzger and the Deason Center are pursuing a number of studies and initiatives designed to improve the criminal justice system and ensure that indigent defendants receive the assistance of counsel they are entitled to under the Constitution.

I would love to hear what you are up to. If you don’t want to write about yourself, please send news about your classmates!
