Class Note 1985
Issue
March-April 2022
Happy New Year, everyone! I suspect many share the feeling that 2021 couldn’t end soon enough. Let’s hope 2022 is full of more happiness, kindness, and connection. Let’s also hope 2022 is filled with more classmate news. As I write this with my oldest child’s Christmas Eve birthday tomorrow, I am reminded of the many things for which we are thankful and the great people in our class. I am also reminded about a great birthday trivia question: Under what circumstance can the first-born twin be younger than the twin born second?
As you ponder that, there is also exciting secretary transition news to share: Rebecca Osborne (Becky Blake to all of us) will be assuming co-secretary duties with me as Leslie Dahl passes the torch after 30-plus years of sharing news and supporting our class. A lot of thoughts go through my mind as Leslie moves on—primarily that it’s been my pleasure working with her through these past decades and how thankful I am for her support and collaboration. Her contributions will be missed. As Remember the Titans Coach Herman Boone said, “Cannot replace a Leslie Dahl.” That said, please join me in welcoming Becky. She will be fantastic in this role, and I look forward to her first column!
This is usually where I begin with “Insert Name Here” writes….Well, no one has written, no one has called, no one has texted, not even sure anyone has driven by the house. But fear not, there is some news to be shared about a tremendous biking-birthday weekend in late September in picturesque Washington, Connecticut, hosted by Sal and Karyn Sorce (full disclosure, Sal hosted his own party, so deduce what you’d like from that). It was an outing full of biking, laughing, great food and beverage, and, oh yeah, friendship. Joining me and Cindy in the festivities were Jim and Annie Newman, Jack and Eileen’83 Sylvia, Chris Mulligan and Sarah Sherwood, and Russ and Kathy Mitchell. Russ felt the need to get warmed up for the biking by running a 50-mile trail race that Saturday. When he asked for volunteers to join him he was met with the same response I get to “Please send in news for the class column.” For those with open fall calendars, contact Sal for 2022 reservations!
There’s been a lot of time to think during these past two years. While simultaneously enjoying the current and looking forward positively to the future, it’s also possible to reminisce and remember interactions with various classmates. I always enjoy those sports “Where Are They Now” features. In that vein, today I’m thinking about John Hanson, Martin Steffen, Diana Shannon and Ray Wagner, also some of my freshman trip fellow campers—Brenda Healey, Margo Buckels, Bill McAllister, and Joel Margolese. Think about your freshman trip cohorts—I hope it will bring a smile to your face. Hope everyone had a great holiday full of family, fun, and togetherness.
