Class Note 1981
Issue
January-February 2025
Rime ice and lid-loosening wind gusts greeted hikers along the peaks of the N.H. Presidential Range late fall after a resplendent autumn foliage show. The second annual class hike up Mount Moosilauke earlier in August garnered enthusiastic engagement of 30-plus class members, including Alison Hibbert, Bob Dale, Shelly Wieler, Thaxter Sharp, Helen Hemminger, Peter Corren, Ingrid Stallsmith, Peter Flink, Jim Delisle, Peter Weller, and, for his first climb ever, Marshall Brown! If you have not seen the new Ravine Lodge, you must. Photos are available on the class Facebook page. Plan for next year!
Speaking of next year, our 45th reunion, in conjunction with the classes of ’79 and ’80, is scheduled for June 19-22 and registration will commence in late February. Co-reunion chairs Ellen Lindsey and Rick Silverman introduced the spectacular theme “It really is an ’81-derful life!” created by Kim Young. The reunion webpage (dartgo.org/81derful) is active, very informative, and has the Frank Pancho Ryan artistic theme interpretation. Turnout is expected to be 400-plus, so get psyched, fight fear of missing out, and please plan to participate. In addition, put your thinking caps on and come up with some ideas on marking the summer solstice (June 20) and help our maestro Vaughn Halyard regarding reunion music. He will be sending out a request to “help us, help you craft a memorable playlist,” complete with mindfulness-based approaches to reach deep into our collective consciousness for the pure jam.
Chris Meledandri was inducted into the Dartmouth Entrepreneurs Hall of Fame for producing the most successful animated film franchise ever, the Despicable Me/Minions series as well as others, including the adaptations of Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas and The Lorax.
Jack Ryan has had a career in investment banking and then education but now is taking on the residential realty field, trying to right-size transaction fees. He and his company, REX, were the subject of a most insightful Wall Street Journal article. He also coauthored Bringing Adam Smith into the American Home: A Case Against Home Ownership.
As always, we would love to hear from you. Please reach out.
