Class Note 1974

Issue

November-December 2024

At this writing it’s been about 10 weeks since we gathered for our 50th reunion and we’re 10 weeks from the election. Looking back, our reunion was truly a highlight for many of us, connecting and reconnecting. Looking forward, when you read this, we’ll likely know who will assume the Oval Office in January. That’s weird.

I’m reminded of the old rabbinical saying, “You are not expected to complete the task but neither are you permitted to abandon it.” So what’s the task? As your class secretary, it’s a commitment to help assure that those who’ve been deeply connected with our class and the College continue to feel connected; for many who haven’t, they find the opportunity and inspiration to reconnect. Start with a regular check of our class website: https://1974.dartmouth.org. Thank you, webmaster Ken Hall.

Please let me know what you’ve most enjoyed in the Class Notes. Many thanks to Phil Stebbins and others dating back to Steve Severson, Class Secretary of the Year in 1979!

I asked several classmates why they read Class Notes. From Tom Guidi: “I like to hear about what other classmates are up to these days. Mostly I look forward to hearing about people I know or knew who I have not kept in touch with.” From Rocky Whitaker: “I want to see if there’s anyone I know and keep up on what’s goin’ on.” Jean Weinberg shared she looks for friends who’ve been written about or who’ve written. Would that be you?

From Ron Heier: “Although I rarely know the classmates well, I enjoy reading about their life experiences, travels, and class get-togethers.” From Bill White:“I enjoy remembrances of people, events, and news, especially if it is something new or serendipitous.” Chris Pfaff wrote, “I enjoy keeping up to date with classmates on joyful and sorrowful episodes in their lives.” Keep the joyful especially coming from classmates and surviving spouses and partners alike.

Whether a Class Notes regular or not, please let me hear from you. Thank you.
