Charles Russell Neale Jr. ’50

Charles Russell Neale Jr. ’50, M.D., died on May 22, 2009, in Asheville, North Carolina. At Dartmouth he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He came to Dartmouth following duty with the U.S. Navy and shortly after graduation was recalled into the Naval Reserve. Following final discharge Russ spent time in retail sales, insurance underwriting, air freight forwarding and teaching at the Rocky Mountain School at Carbondale, Colorado. It was the latter experience that, he wrote, led him to a highly rewarding 36-year career in clinical psychology, during part of which he conducted a private practice. Following her completion of a doctorate in social work, his wife, Nancy, who survives him, joined him in the practice. Together, he and Nancy raised children Aleda, Erica and Graham. Following a move to Black Mountain, North Carolina, Nancy’s hometown, they settled in the Asheville retirement community of Deerfield.
