Carl William Maier ’40 of Bellingham, Washington, died March 31, 2009. Carl came to Dartmouth from Chatham (New Jersey) High School, majored in sociology and was secretary of Phi Sigma Kappa and a member of The Players. During WW II he served in the U.S. Army in Europe, from 1944 to 1946. After the war he worked in the corporate headquarters of Pepsico. In 1976 he moved to Vermont and set up and operated a restaurant in an old mill. “Being an entrepreneur is the best,” he said. Carl was predeceased by his wife, June. He is survived by sons Lawrence, Peter ’74 and Jeffrey.
