Angus Macdonald Russell ’52

Angus Macdonald Russell ’52 died unexpectedly from a hemorrhagic stroke on July 30, 2009. Born in December 1930 in Philadelphia, he graduated from the Haverford School. Following Dartmouth, with a history major, he earned a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania. After service in the U.S. Army he joined the Philadelphia law firm of Morgan, Lewis and Bockius, where he served for 29 years. In 1987 he switched careers and joined the Dartmouth administration as a fundraising officer, including some period as director of gift planning. He retired with emeritus status only one month before his passing. In 1960 he married Elisabeth “Liz” Waterworth. She survives him, along with their children Laura, Alex and John and four grandchildren. Angus was an active hiker, a student of Russian language and interested in supporting education for young people, serving as a trustee of the Keasbey Foundation for 30 years.
