Albert Lincoln Wertheimer ’59

Albert Lincoln Wertheimer ’59 passed away on August 24, 2012, at his home in Syracuse, New York. Al entered Dartmouth from the Manlius School in New York. At Dartmouth he was in Zeta Psi and Navy ROTC, managing editor of Jacko and on the Green Key committee and Undergraduate Council. He earned his M.B.A. from Tuck School and his M.S. from Thayer School. From 1960 to 1963 Al served on the aircraft carrier, USS Shangri-La. In 1963 Al entered the radio business and led the Empire State FM Network in upstate New York. In 1978 Al formed Lincoln Group Ltd., which grew to a multi-market radio group with stations in upstate New York and eastern Ohio. He received recognition in the National Association of Broadcasters’ book, Radio: In Search of Excellence. Al sold the radio stations and retired in 1998. He served on numerous committees, including the National Association of Broadcasters and Gov. Mario Cuomo’s Select Committee on Taxation. Al was inducted into the New York State (2007) and the Rochester (1998) broadcasters halls of fame and the Manlius Pebble Hill Sports Hall of Fame (2012), where he had been a trustee. Al was a trustee of Crouse Hospital, a former president of the Dartmouth Club of Central New York, and was the founder of Heart of Gold Foundation in Rochester, New York. Al enjoyed golf and was a Syracuse University sports enthusiast. Mary, his wife, three children and six grandchildren survive him.
