Adam Tanney ’01
Adam Tanney ’01 passed away at his home in Dover, New Hampshire, on September 22, 2015. A loving father, he is survived by son Xavier, parents Erik and Diane, sister Sara, brother-in-law Kevin, niece Claire, brother Isaac and companion Melissa. Born in Paterson, New Jersey, on March 23, 1979, Adam and his family moved to Waterbury Center, Vermont, in 1988. He attended Harwood Union High School and then graduated from Deerfield Academy in 1997. He received a bachelor’s in economics from Dartmouth and went on to earn a graduate degree in educational leadership from Harvard. As a youth Adam excelled in swimming and was a member of the Central Vermont Wavemakers for several years. At Dartmouth he was a member of the men’s heavyweight crew team, culminating in a historic victory over Princeton to win the 2001 Ladies Challenge Plate at the Henley Royal Regatta in Great Britain. For this he was inducted into Wearers of the Green. Professionally, Adam applied his passion for education during his career as a consultant and researcher at RMC Research Corp. in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He displayed his love and compassion for others by volunteering as a Big Brother; serving with a prison ministry through St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Milton, Massachusetts; and venturing to Nicaragua on a building mission trip with the Dartmouth Tucker Foundation. Adam will always be remembered as the first to say, “Can I do anything to help?” to his friends, colleagues and others in need.
