Wayne Estey Cliff ’55, Tu’56

Wayne Estey Cliff ’55, Tu’56, died on March 17 following a long battle with respiratory failure. He came to Dartmouth from Chicago on a Navy ROTC scholarship and earned a A.B., and then an M.B.A. from Tuck in 1956. After three years of active service Wayne resided in Montpelier, Vermont, with his wife, Margot, whom he had met while in Hanover. In 1963 they moved to San Rafael, California, where he worked as a loan officer with mortgage lender E.S. Merriman & Sons. In 1970 he became an executive vice president of Bank of America’s real estate investment trust. Fourteen years later Wayne moved to Portland, Maine, and became a senior vice president in the investment department of UNUM. With real estate faltering, Wayne took early retirement in 1991 and enjoyed more time sailing and watching others manage money on his computer. He is survived by his wife, three children, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
