Thomas W. Cornwall ’50


Thomas W. Cornwall ’50 died on January 29 at the Deerfield Lifespace Care Center in Urbandale, Iowa, after a short battle with cancer. He graduated from Kemper Military High School in Iowa prior to serving in the Army for 18 months. While at Dartmouth he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa. Following graduation he attended law school at the University of Iowa and received his law degree in 1953. He married Marjorie Warner while in law school. After graduation they moved to Spencer, Iowa, where he joined the firm of Cornwall & Cornwall, which had been founded by W.W. Cornwall, his grandfather, in 1892. He remained there until his retirement in 2008. During his long career Tom was active in many civic and fraternal organizations. He was a board member of the YMCA, the Everly State Bank, Spencer Municipal Utilities and the Clay County Fair board. Tom was survived by Marge, children Tom, Katie and Mary, seven grandchildren and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
