Richard J.S. Barlow Jr. ’48

Richard J.S. Barlow Jr. ’48 died at Harborlights Nursing Center in South Boston, Massachusetts, on March 26. He moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 2008 following the death of his wife, Jane. His son Richard III ’81 lives in Cambridge and survives him, as does son Michael. Dick arrived on campus with the July 1944 contingent of original ’48s, and saw Navy duty before returning for his degree in English. He belonged to Phi Kappa Psi. Following graduation he obtained a law degree at the University of Pennsylvania and was admitted to the bar in 1953. He returned to his hometown of Trenton, New Jersey, to practice law. He was appointed to the Superior Court Bench in 1974 and retired from there in 1991. Dick and Jane lived for many years across the river in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He led our class in 1957 and remained active in alumni activities. His father and many relatives were Dartmouth alumni.
