Richard Glenn Ceely ’50

Richard Glenn Ceely ’50 died on March 23, 2010, of lung cancer. While at Dartmouth Dick majored in history and was a member of Gamma Delta Chi. Prior to attending the College he served in the Air Force. He was survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley, children David, Jim and Janet, four grandchildren, two brothers and a nephew. For 18 years he and Shirley owned and ran Parkman Printing, an Ann Arbor, Michigan, commercial printing company. During most of his life Dick was an avid college hockey fan, having coached with the Ann Arbor Amateur Hockey Association. Other interests included New York Times crossword puzzles and bicycling, at which he accumulated more than 10,000 miles with the Ann Arbor Bicycle Touring Society. Another main interest of Richard’s was sailing. During a seven-year period he and Shirley sailed their boat down the East Coast and to the Bahamas. A favorite mooring stop was in the sheltered waters of the Indian River Lagoon in Vero Beach, Florida. Dick’s final wish was that his ashes be spread off the coast of Massachusetts.
