Richard Dennis Batchelder ’55


Richard Dennis Batchelder ’55 died February 14. Dick entered Dartmouth after graduating from St. John’s Preparatory School, where he was captain of the baseball and basketball teams. He continued his love of baseball at Dartmouth, and excelled both academically and on the field. He was a member of Delta Upsilon. In 1960 Dick received a master’s from Salem State College. Education was his lifelong endeavor both as a guidance counselor and coach of basketball. He was affiliated with the Boston Celtics in a program that allowed hundreds of kids and adults to attend games free of charge. After 39 years of public education, Dick retired to the golf links. In addition to his wife of 30 years, Marian, he is survived by a daughter, two sons, seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
