Raymond Hicks ’45


Raymond Hicks ’45 of Livingston, New Jersey, died at the nearby West Caldwell Care Center on July 5, 2010. He was born ion Washington, D.C., and came to Dartmouth from Peddie School in New Jersey. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi. His college career was interrupted by his service in the Army, where he attained the rank of first lieutenant in the Transportation Corp. He returned with his wife, Cecilia, to live in Wigwam Circle and go to Tuck, graduating in 1948. Ray went with Johnson and Higgins Insurance in New York learning the business of adjusting marine insurance. After he became vice president in February 1967 he left to become claims manager of the claims department of the American Hull Insurance Syndicate in New York. He retired from that position in 1989. He was well respected and held many positions in the marine insurance industry, teaching courses at the College of Insurance, the School of World Trade and the World Trade Institute. He was predeceased by his first wife, Cecilia, in 1977.He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Sylvia, children Raymond III and Maria, grandson Raymond IV, and three stepchildren and their families.
