Millard Preston Goodfellow ’43


Millard Preston Goodfellow ’43 died January 28 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Wilmington, Delaware. Preston graduated from Brooklyn Polytech Country Day School, where he played football and hockey and was a member of the wrestling team. He entered Dartmouth with the class of ’43 and shortly thereafter enlisted in the Army. He served as a bombardier in the 5th Air Force in New Guinea and Australia during WW II. When the war ended he returned to Dartmouth and graduated in 1947. He majored in history and was a member of Phi Delta Theta. For the next two years he assisted his father, the publisher of the Pocatello Tribune in Idaho, before joining the audit department of PNC Bank in Wilmington, Delaware. Having remained in the Army Reserves, Preston was called back into service as a captain in the Korean War in 1952. Later he returned to the bank, and eventually became assistant vice president and manager of the 6th and Market Street branch. Preston retired in 1977. Retirement gave him and his wife of 66 years, Allene Leach Goodfellow, more time for travel. Reading and watching sports were also favorite occupations and, a lover of animals, he always had a dog at his side. Preston is survived by his wife, daughter Joan, a grandson and a great-granddaughter. Son M. Preston died in 1991.
