Michael A. Letis ’63


Michael A. Letis ’63 of Goshen, Connecticut, died December 24, 2010. Mike was born in New Haven, Connecticut, and was a three-sport athlete at nearby East Haven High School, where he led Connecticut in passing, yardage and total yards in 1959. He was a major contributor to state championship basketball and baseball teams at East Haven and was one of the first inductees to the East Haven High School Hall of Fame. As a Dartmouth freshman Mike broke the existing passing records for quarterbacks. He was a brother of Tabard/Sigma Chi. Mike began his career in marketing management positions at Mobil Oil Co. and The New York Times. In 1973 Mike left The Times to develop sports marketing programs including Pitch, Hit and Run, the official youth program of Major League Baseball; the 1976 baseball bicentennial program; and This Week in Baseball, a weekly syndicated television program. In 1984 Mike cofounded Sports Marketing & Television International, which became exclusive U.S. marketing agent for the XIV Olympic Winter Games in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, and consultants in the formation of the Breeders’ Cup. Mike was a director of Thoroughbred Racing Communications, member of the New York Turf & Field Club and a thoroughbred owner. He is survived by his wife, Susan, children Michael and Megan, grandchildren Matthew, Graysen and Kate and brother Tommy.
