Marvin A. Rauch ’35
Marvin A. Rauch ’35 died on January 21 at Bryn Mawr Hospital in Haverford, Pennsylvania, after a brief illness. Born in New York City on December 17, 1913, he attended Far Rockaway (New York) High School. After graduating from Dartmouth he went on to dental school at New York University, where he later taught as an adjunct clinical professor. On February 14, 1939, he married Sarah “Sue” Baron. He opened a dental office in Far Rockaway and practiced there for more than 40 years, with Sue acting as his assistant. Marvin continued his practice for a few years after the death of his wife in 1989. He retired at the age of 78 and began the second phase of his long life, residing in Greenport, New York; Boynton Beach, Florida; and Haverford. Marvin will be long remembered by his family and many friends for his enormous energy, enthusiasm for life, sparkling personality and intellectual curiosity. In his last years he wrote many articles on wide-ranging scientific topics that he distributed to an ever-growing e-mail list. An avid sportsman, he was at one time a New York City handball champion, and well into his later years he played squash and tennis and sailed his 40-foot boat in the waters off eastern Long Island with Sue. In addition to Sue, he was predeceased by his companion Adele, second wife Claire and third wife Florence. He is survived by sons Jeffrey and Victor; their wives, Geraldine and Ingrid; grandchildren Matthew, David and Sophia; many nieces and nephews; and companion Leonie.
