Manuel Anthony Benero ’47


Manuel Anthony Benero ’47 died in Austin, Texas, on December 11, 2009. He joined the class as a civilian from Saranac, New York, in the summer of 1943. He majored in economics, played goalie on the hockey team, performed in the band and joined Green Key and Dragon. He joined the naval unit and became a career Navy officer in aviation. He was awarded a Silver Star for action in Vietnam. He served as commander of Attack Squadron 95 aboard the USS Kitty Hawk. He earned an M.A. from Middlebury College in 1983. From 1983 to 1989 he was a consultant for a British firm based in Madrid, Spain. His hobbies were golf, sailing and tennis. He is survived by his wife and three children.
