Laurence F. Gardner ’57

Laurence F. Gardner ’57 passed away on August 12, 2012. He grew up in Littleton, New Hampshire. At Dartmouth he was active in the Newman Club, Film Society, International Relations Club and Pre-Law Club. He received his law degree from George Washington University Law School in 1960. Larry began practicing law in Littleton, where he served on the school board, as town moderator and as a director of Littleton National Bank. In 1971 he opened his practice in Hanover, where he served on the town council for 28 years. Larry served in several capacities on the New Hampshire Bar Association’s professional conduct committee and also on the board of governors of the New Hampshire Bar Association. His specialty was municipal law and during his career he represented more than 15 municipalities. In retirement he enjoyed helping people with their legal problems, refusing compensation. He wanted to be remembered as a good lawyer. Larry’s many interests included reading biographies, listening to classical music, growing roses, collecting toy soldiers and producing his own backyard maple syrup. In his more active days he enjoyed team volleyball, cycling to work, and paddling his Folboat on any body of water. He also hosted a classical music program on Vermont Public Radio for three years. Larry is survived by Claire, his wife of 16 years, and children Christopher and Elizabeth.
