John Gilray Christy ’54


John Gilray Christy ’54 passed away on June 10 in Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania, from a heart condition. Jack entered Dartmouth from Silver Creek (New York) High School. At Dartmouth he was a history major and a brother of Theta Delta Chi. After graduation he served a four-year stint as a naval aviator and then earned a master’s in Asian studies from the University of California. Jack then worked for the Development Loan Fund in India and then for ITT in New York, where he served as president of ITT World Directories. In 1972 he joined IU International, eventually being elected president. He was a former board member of Fidelity Bank, the Philadelphia Contributionship, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Eisenhower Fellowship. Jack served the class of 1954 as class secretary, class agent and a member of the major gift committee. He is survived by his wife, Helen, son Andrew and daughter Jennifer.
