John Dodge Haynes ’59

John Dodge Haynes ’59 passed away on February 21, 2007, in Ridgeville, South Carolina. We will remember John as WDCR’s chief announcer in our sophomore and junior years. John also participated in crew, the Dartmouth Outing Club and Bait & Bullet. After Dartmouth John earned a master’s degree in communications from Boston University and joined the Marine Corps and flew jets, helicopters and transports during his 25-year career. His last posting before retirement was head of public affairs for the Marine airwing covering all East Coast stations. He retired in 1982 and founded Geodata Consultants, a firm (now operated by son John Jr.) that provides geographic data to clients around the world. John and his wife, Janice, met on a blind date at the Cherry Hill (New Jersey) Air Station. From 1980 to 1992 John assumed the role of military spouse and followed Janice, who was a Navy nurse until her retirement in 1992. From 1985 to 1990 they lived in Puerto Rico until Janice was reassigned to Charleston, South Carolina, where she still resides. John’s soft spot was in rescuing many stray and abandoned dogs, and he had 11 at home. John is survived by Janice and children John Jr., Linda and Diane.
