James Walter Kehoe ’45

James Walter Kehoe ’45 died of a heart attack December 27, 2011, in Marietta, Georgia, where he had been living in retirement. Jim came to Dartmouth from Senn High School in Chicago. He was born in Evanston, Illinois, December 12, 1923. Jim had an early interest in flying, and when WW II hit he left Dartmouth, in his sophomore year, for flight training in troop carrier command. This led to dangerous flights behind the German lines in northern Italy. After the war he worked for the family business in Chicago briefly and then went to Miami, where he met and married Dorothy, his lifelong wife. He worked for the Remington-Rand division of Sperry-Rand Inc. He then returned to active duty, where he became chief operations officer at Homestead Air Force Base (AFB), then base commander at Dobbins AFB in Marietta. From there he became the eastern region commander of the tactical airlift command at Westover AFB in Massachusetts. In 1974 he suffered a heart attack, which ended his flying career, and he retired to Marietta in 1975. Jim continued to travel with his family. His wife died in the 1990s. He is survived by daughters Linda, Diane and Kathleen and son James.
