Harvey Jay Hambleton ’56


Harvey Jay Hambleton ’56 died surrounded by his family on February 1 at the Bailey Center for Caring at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine, Florida. Born and raised in Buffalo, New York, he graduated from Nichols Preparatory School, went on to Dartmouth for a degree in earth sciences and as a Rhodes Scholar obtained master’s degrees in geology from both Yale and Penn State University. He worked for a time as a graduate assistant at the Florida State University geology department before becoming employed as a curator of geology for the Buffalo Museum of Science for five years. He then went to work for his family’s business, as a loan officer for People Loan in Buffalo, New York, an occupation in which he continued for many years. Harvey and his family relocated to St. Augustine in 1991. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sabra; daughter Becki; son Herb and his wife, Cindy; and son Jay.
