George Russell Turmail ’64


George Russell Turmail ’64 of Marshfield, Massachusetts, died September 25, 2010. He grew up in Ladue, Missouri, where he attended Horton Watkins High School and participated in student government, band, football, baseball, soccer and track. At Dartmouth Rusty majored in economics and participated in Navy ROTC, soccer, Chi Phi and Dragon. Russ loved sports and was an accomplished soccer player, who was open to sharing his “tricks of the trade” with his teammates. After graduation he fulfilled his Navy commitment, which included service in Vietnam. On returning he went to Boston University, where he earned an M.B.A. He then joined the Bank of Boston, where he was quickly promoted to vice president. He became a troubleshooter and leader of transition teams for the bank, which underwent several mergers and acquisitions. He retired from the bank in 1997. In retirement Russ with his wife, Judy, focused their attention on their 11 grandchildren and six children, his three daughters and her three sons. Russ passed along his love of sports, music and nature. He also volunteered with many organizations to preserve open land and help needy people. He had a lifelong passion for nature, community and his family.
