Frank Mellon Burnap ’60

Frank Mellon Burnap ’60 passed away due to health complications following surgery on June 14 in Thendara, New York, surrounded by close friends and family. Frank grew up in Westchester County in Pelham, New York, where he graduated from Pelham Memorial High School in 1956, lettering in football, basketball and track. He matriculated at Dartmouth College with high school friends Borden Powers and Duncan Mathewson. In October 1967 he married Beverly Dingman, the love of his life for 43 years. As a member of the class of 1960 Frank loved his time at Dartmouth; he always was a firm supporter of the “old way of doing things” at the College but understood that some changes had to happen. He was a history major and had great fun playing football as an end for Coach Blackman. Following graduation Frank went to Hawaii and worked for several years in air cargo service to islands in the Pacific. Later Frank worked in research and development for Food Fair in Philadelphia. In 1971 this led to Frank and his young family to move to Old Forge, New York, where he and his wife opened the Farm Market. This roadside vegetable and fruit market quickly became highly successful with both annual residents and summer visitors. Frank is survived by Beverly; daughter Hillary and her husband, George; daughter Jennie; brother Edward and his wife, Janice; sister Lucy and her husband, Thomas; brother John and his wife, Joan; an aunt; several cousins; and many nieces and nephews.
