David W. Little ’44
David W. Little ’44 died April 30 at IU Health Bloomington (Indiana) Hospital. At Dartmouth he was a Rufus Choate Scholar and president of Phi Delta Theta. After early graduation he joined the Navy, serving 34 months of active duty, participating in six engagements in the Pacific theater. At the conclusion of WW II he entered Northwestern University Law School, earning the J.D. in 1949. Rather than begin his career as a practicing lawyer, he chose to join West Publishing Co., the leading publisher of legal information, in sales. In 1953 he and his wife, Phyllis, moved to her hometown, Sheridan, Wyoming, to begin his own practice. He resumed his affiliation with West Publishing in 1955 and as regional sales manager moved to Bloomington, Indiana, where he was a prominent and active member of the community. David’s particular hobby was searching for and collecting American Indian artifacts. He had an extensive collection and combined this with unusual objects, displayed in his home office, acquired during his world travels. David was largely unknown for his extensive philanthropy, as he asked to be identified as an anonymous donor. He was, however, well known by the various recipients through personal visits to each. Phyllis, daughter Kristen and son Peter ’81 survive him; he was preceded in death by his son David Jr.
