Walter Edwin Anderson ’54

Walter Edwin Anderson ’54 passed away on November 30, 2017, in New London, New Hampshire. Walt came to Dartmouth from Hamden, Connecticut, where he attended Hamden High School. At Dartmouth he was an economics major and a brother of Sigma Chi. Walt was a member of the football team and was awarded the Manners Maketh the Man Award. After graduation he was commissioned as a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, serving three years in Germany and North Africa. After discharge Walt started a banking career, working for 20 years with Chase Manhattan Bank, where he became a vice president, and then 20 years at Summit Bank in New Jersey. He retired in 1996. After retirement Walt became a court-appointed special advocate in New Jersey and then New Hampshire. While in New Jersey he also volunteered with Meals on Wheels, the Interfaith Food Pantry and the Homeless Network. In 2005 Walt moved to New London. He is survived by his wife, Ellie, and sons Richard, David and Eric.
