David Alan Smith ’66

David Alan Smith ’66 of Surfside Beach, South Carolina, passed away on April 8 after having thrived for 25 good years with congestive heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Dave graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in Schenectady, New York, and at Dartmouth was a government major and member of Phi Gamma Delta. He earned an M.B.A. with a concentration in finance from Columbia in 1970. For the majority of his 30-plus-year career Dave was a mortgage lender in New York City, most recently at M&T Bank. Dave retired in February 2000 after a near-fatal heart attack. In 1968 Dave married Darilyn Keith and they welcomed son Russell in 1972. Dave and Darilyn’s marriage ended in divorce in 1982. In 2000 Dave married Christine “Tina”; they lived in Forest Hills, New York, until moving to Surfside Beach in 2005 to enjoy golf and other outdoor activities. Dave also enjoyed spending summers with Tina’s extended family on the Bay in Green Bay, Wisconsin, playing contract bridge, reading, cooking, and finding the bargains at the local supermarkets and wine shops. Dave is survived by Tina and Russell.
