Class Note 2007
Issue
September-October 2023
Hey, ’07s! I’m writing these as we come off a successful N.Y.C. mini-reunion on June 4. It was great to connect with classmates, many of whom brought kids, to our Brooklyn gathering. It’s such a joy to stay connected and I hope these notes continue to satisfy! Please reach out to me if you have any updates; I would love to get more voices in this column as 2024 approaches.
Derrick Smith, who I caught up with in Philly in April, writes, “After taking about 10 months off work I started my new role as director of development for National Medical Fellowships. It is a little-known nonprofit that has been deploying need- and merit-based scholarships and grant funding for Black, Indigenous, and people of color medical school students and researchers for more than 75 years! I’m excited to address health inequities people like me experience in our nation’s healthcare system and to stay in Philadelphia and in the world of financial development in the nonprofit sector.”
Jennifer (Ty) Kohan and her husband, Gabriel, welcomed a baby boy, Noah Joshua Kohan, into their family on April 12, 2022. Their other son, Ethan (2), has been a great big brother. The four of them and their dog, Olivia, live in Bethesda, Maryland, and would love to catch up with any Dartmouth alums in the D.C. area!
Dave Stanek shared a slew of life updates around the turn of 2023: “I just got back from Hawaii, where I proposed to my girlfriend (now fiancée) Rachel Switzer! A couple days later we flew to upstate New York and celebrated Dan Racic’s wedding. A couple days after that I joined Kirkland & Ellis LLP as a partner. It’s been a busy few weeks!”
Arielle (Rodman) Langer writes, “I am still living in the Boston suburbs and working as a hematologist at Dana Farber/Brigham and Women’s Hospital as well as being core faculty in the Harvard Medical School hematology course. It’s a fun mix of things, but all on pause for maternity leave as we just welcomed our daughter, Miranda, in August. Luckily her big brothers Theodore and Thomas consider her the best toy they’ve ever been given. We got to spend July 4th with Chris and Blair (Burgreen) Chan and their kids before our new baby came and just got to introduce all three kids to Mitch Pet when he was in town for a medical conference.”
Darren Sturges shared, “I’m living in Berlin, Germany, where my wife and I are expecting our second child any day now. I’m grateful for the Dartmouth network in northern Europe and have reconnected with Kenny Brown-Klinger,one of my first friends at Dartmouth. In August our families will meet again in Copenhagen. Meanwhile, Michael Amico and I are participating in the robust English language comedy scene in Berlin. It’s a fantastic and unique city with so much culture and, of course, history. Another way I enjoy staying connected to Dartmouth is via the admissions ambassador program, interviewing students from my hometown Miami and Europe. The applicants get more impressive each year!”
