Class Note 2007

Issue

March-April 2023

One of our class Olympians, Sara Studebaker-Hall, writes, “In September I was elected to the International Biathlon Union’s technical committee. This 12-member elected body looks at biathlon rule changes, international event schedules, and officials’ education, among other tasks. I am the first U.S. woman and only the third American elected to this decision-making body. My husband, Zach Hall ’06, and I and our 4-year-old, August, are all doing well in Utah. Zach is coaching and leading programs at Soldier Hollow and we’re both busy juggling work and family and enjoying the chaos!

Alex Garrison-Barnett, who is also president-elect of the Alumni Council, shares, “I had the pleasure of traveling to Hanover in November for the ‘Celebration of Women: 50 Years of Coeducation at Dartmouth.’ I spoke on a panel titled ‘Title IX 50 Years In: Looking to the Future as We Celebrate Progress’ with four other Dartmouth alumnae. Other highlights included attending the Dartmouth Hall rededication ceremony, touring the newly renovated Dartmouth Hall, and hearing Dartmouth President-elect Dr. Sian Leah Beilock speak with Liz Lempres ’83, Th’84, chair of the Dartmouth board of trustees. I was also thrilled to see several of our ’07 classmates: Catherine (Gilb) Lacey, Avery (Eyre) Lovejoy, Amanda Rosenblum, and Lucy (Whidden) Hampton.”

Dr. Derrick Harrison, also known as “Shawn,” has traveled from N.Y.C. to Michigan to lead a kindergarten-through-eighth-grade school in the heart of Midtown, Detroit. After graduating with a doctorate in education leadership, he is now in Michigan and calling all alumni in the area who are looking for work in the field of education to look him up on LinkedIn and connect, whether you’re a teacher or could be a community partner. Great work, Dr. Harrison!

Natalya (Shulga) Taboney shares, “I’m still living in Brooklyn with my two kids, Elise (1) and Wesley (3), and husband Sawyer. I’ve been working at College Board AP Program for a year, focusing on innovative assessments. Now that our kids are old enough we did a bunch of bike riding with them this summer outside the city and I got to catch up with Julia Hecht ’08 and Amie Sugarman.

Michelle Davis shares from Washington, D.C.: “I started a new gig as an assistant general counsel in the district’s office of the chief financial officer. Enjoying the work and liking the job! My son, Michael, started kindergarten. He’s lovely. I had lunch with Rudy Chounoune, who is now general counsel for the District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department. I purchased delicious food from SexyVeggie at a farmers market, a business started by Jon Meyers and his wife. I also caught up with Vivian Chung and her wife, Rena Fried ’08, and shared pictures of their beautiful baby boy!”

Alison (Riep) Kinzie writes, “My husband, Charlie, and I are overjoyed to announce the arrival of our firstborn daughter, Eliza Anneke Kinzie, born on September 25 in Boston. Eliza is strong, curious, alert, and very cuddly and we are totally in love. Needless to say, our first purchase for her was a Dartmouth onesie during reunion weekend in June.”

Finally, we are devastated by the news of the unexpected passing of Dax Tejera on December 23, 2022. Dax was a standout at Dartmouth for many reasons, including his deep contributions to The Dartmouth newspaper. Dax had sent a class note celebrating several milestones of 2022, including the success of his show, ABC’s This Week, and the birth of his second baby girl, Ella, joining his family in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
