Class Note 2007

Issue

Nov - Dec 2012

Hello, ’07s!

First of all, thank you for the overwhelming number of contributions for my first real Class Notes! I received something like 2,200 words worth of notes for a column limited to 600, so here goes my attempt at editing!

Patricia Inman got married on September 29 to Kevin Taratuta, with Sarah McGlaughlin as a bridesmaid and George Oh and Peter Van Buren in attendance. Congrats, Trish!

Mike Hart married Jessica Meneses ’09 in Greenwich, Connecticut. Several alums of various classes were in attendance—congrats!

Robin Riehl and Ben Cox recently got engaged! Congrats, guys!

Natalie Koch just moved to Syracuse, where she is teaching in Syracuse University’s geography department. Write her at nkoch@maxwell.syr.edu!

Our very own Mary Hiratsuka was recently featured in The Hill’s “50 Most Beautiful People of 2012.” Congrats, gorgeous!

Daniel Villone started at Tuck Business School this fall (class of 2014) and shared that, “Dartmouth couldn’t keep me away, I guess.” I know the feeling!

Heather Hughes recently moved to Amsterdam to do dissertation research with the support of a Fulbright. She’s a fourth-year in the art history Ph.D. program at Penn and says, “The odds are slim that anyone else will be in the Netherlands, but just in case, I’m putting the word out!”

Sarah Hughes writes that she regrets not attending reunion but had a good excuse: She was in London with her theater company, Elevator Repair Service, doing a West End run of Gatz, an eight-hour, word-for-word performance of The Great Gatsby. “I’m normally the stage manager and assistant director but in London I actually went on for one performance as an emergency understudy! It was terrifying but fun. We’re touring Gatz and another show, The Select, to Dublin, Lisbon, Princeton and L.A. this fall/winter; I hope to catch up with some ’07s on my travels or see some familiar faces in the audience at one of my shows!”

Sofia Faruqi shares that, “The five-year reunion was a major summer highlight. I had a great time working at a hedge fund in San Francisco for the summer, and I go back to Wharton in the fall.”

Ludi Chow spent the summer finishing her classics M.A. thesis at the University of Georgia: “After spending two weeks in Turkey, traveling down the western coast looking at Greek and Roman archaeological sites and sitting on the beach, I’m moving to San Francisco to take a job teaching Latin at an independent school in Oakland, California. Looking forward to living somewhere other D alums do too!”

Andreas Baum just graduated law school (UChicago) and moved to N.Y.C. to start at a law firm—but not before traveling with friends, his brother (’05) and his girlfriend throughout Southeast Asia and China!

John Wilson graduated from Wharton in May and joined Jamestown, a real estate private equity group, where he focuses on their New York portfolio. Congrats, John!

Sam Routhier writes to share that two Dartmouth ’07 friends visited his history classroom in N.Y.C.: “Jenny Wang, who is attending Wharton to study educational entrepreneurship, came by to watch my kids learn about ancient India. Then on Thursday Yuki Kondo-Shah sat in for my kids’ lesson on Islam and global trade networks! She then taught my kids about her new gig in the Foreign Service; my kids are all pumped now for careers in the State Department!”

Finally, Lindsey Larson, Amanda Greenberg and Vivian Chung met in Virginia in July to have delicious pho. Yum!

Thank you all again, and can’t wait to hear from more of you soon!
