Class Note 2007

Issue

Mar - Apr 2016

Hello, ’07s! Hope your 2016 is off to a good start! On to some announcements from classmates.

Dunya Onen: “I am very happy to share that a children’s book I wrote and illustrated is now published in my native language of Turkish. In the story Güzel Bahçe Masalları two children venture out of their confines on a journey to a boundless place they create through collaborative storytelling. In this place that they name Beautiful Garden, they encounter the beauties, as well as the challenges, of life and friendship together. They are accompanied and guided by many different creatures of the land and seas throughout their adventure. Güzel Bahçe Masalları is an invitation for all to jump in a hot-air balloon filled with their own imagination to discover and share the joys of looking at life through different perspectives.”

Mackenzie Knowles-Coursin was featured in The Wall Street Journal and Time magazine for his experiences traveling with migrants through the Sahara and for having lived in war-torn Syria and South Sudan. You can view his incredible photography at mkcimage.com or instagram.com/mkcoursin.

Sonia Faruqi will be speaking at Dartmouth on April 14 at 4:30 p.m. at Rockefeller Center. She will discuss public policy as it relates to food and animal issues and will also read from Project Animal Farm and sign copies of the book.

Laura Pearlstein Mills: “My husband, Hywel, and I are thrilled to share that our daughter, Theodora Lynn Mills—‘Teddy’ to her friends—joined us on December 6. We are utterly besotted.”

Sam Beattie: “My wife, Julie, and I both recently quit our jobs in the San Francisco Bay Area and are moving to Seattle, so that’s our biggest current news. We’ve spent the last few weeks enjoying our unemployment by spending time in New England with our families over the holidays. The Seattle job hunt stalled a bit after Thanksgiving as companies stopped hiring for the year, but it will be starting back up in earnest come January, when we move into our new place.”

Nik Nartowicz:“I started a new job with the Washington, D.C., government, where I’ll get to rotate through different agencies. My first is with the newly created office of federal and regional affairs, where I advocate on behalf of district residents in Congress and Maryland and Virginia governments.”

Hannah McCullar: “On October 30 my husband, Casey, and I welcomed our second child, Eliza Jane, to the world. She is beautiful and healthy and 2 1/2-year-old Ava is a fantastic big sister.”

Katherine Kalaris: “After two and a half years with the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) in Cameroon working to improve the availability and access to family planning services and the pharmaceutical supply chain, I am relocating to Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, in January and will continue working with CHAI.”

Keep the notes coming, friends!
