Class Note 2007

Issue

Sept - Oct 2015

Jam-packed, had to cut, straight to notes.

Sam Routhier: “Mike Amico visited my history classes to get a sense of what the school’s about. The kids were so interested in his dissertation, a book about two soldiers who become lovers in the American Civil War. He added great energy to the class and it was wonderful to reconnect with him.”

Whitney Gerkin: “My husband, David, and I welcomed a baby boy (Will) to our family in May. We are thrilled!”

Charlie Guthrie: “I just left The New York Times and I’m now working at R/GA, an ad agency. I’ll be traveling in India in August, attending Burning Man in September and then going back to NYU for a master’s in data science. From there I’ll be looking for ways to improve education with data science and technology.”

Grace Chua: “Jimmy Bramante ’09 and I have produced a tiny, adorable human. Our son Darren (’36?) is a champion pooper and thumb-sucker extraordinaire who enjoys sunshine and naps. We are currently based in Boston, where Jimmy is doing a Ph.D. in marine geophysics and I am a freelance science journalist.”

Lindsey Larson: “Vivian Chung married Rena Fried ’08 on a vineyard bluff overlooking the ocean in Greenport, New York. In attendance to celebrate were Michelle Davis, Taica Hsu ’06, Karima Hamamsy ’08, Will McMahan ’08, Jenna Hasenkampf ’06 and Anton Hasenkampf ’06.

Katie (Amato) and Samuel Morales welcomed their son, Alessandro Salvatore, into the world on June 3. All three are enjoying their last summer in Boulder, Colorado, before moving back to Chicago, where Katie will start as an assistant professor of anthropology at Northwestern University in September.

Sara Studebaker and Zachary Hall ’06 married in Stanley, Idaho, on June 27. They were so excited to celebrate with so many fellow alums, including Whitney (MacFadyen) Flynn, Bart Butler ’06, Ruchita Dhawan, Susan Dunklee ’08, Mike Sinnott, Hannah Dreissigacker ’09 and Matthew Weatherly-White ’86. Sara and Zach will continue living in Anchorage, Alaska, after the wedding.

Sonia Faruqi: “My book Project Animal Farm has just been released. The book has received more than 20 endorsements and is garnering media attention far and wide. I am speaking in the United States and Canada.”

Hannah McCullar: “On May 9 Maia (Fedyszyn) Crawford and her husband, Andy, welcomed a beautiful baby boy, Elliott Thomas, to their family. The family is doing great!”

Patricia (Inman) Taratuta: “This year my husband of three years and I bought our very first home in Bloomfield Township, Michigan, and are hoping to start a family soon!”

Anna Sian: “I’m still in N.Y.C. now working as brand marketing manager at Visual Supply Co., an art and technology company. Looking forward to hearing what people are up to these days!”

Yuki Kondo-Shah and her husband, Phil, are wrapping up their first tour with the U.S. Department of State in embassy La Paz, Bolivia, and will be working at embassy Beijing, China, from September. They will be in Arizona, California, Hawaii and D.C. this summer and look forward to catching up with friends in America! “Come visit us in China!”

Clara Aranovich: “A short film I wrote and directed, Primrose, premiered in official competition at this year’s SXSW Film Festival. It was picked up by Nowness.com for distribution and selected as a Vimeo staff pick, which is exciting and means anyone can view it now!”

Luke Antal (after sending me a YouTube link announcing he’s had a baby boy, Linden Muir Antal): “We are back living in Boston and would love to connect with any other new parents in the area!”

Two notes cut off for next issue! Love you all.
