Class Note 2007

Issue

Jan - Feb 2010

As we begin the New Year the wedding bells keep ringing in the ’07 class. Meredith Wilson—now Meredith Wilson Chang—married Welton Chang ’05 on May 16, with Marlene Labastida, Katie Racicot ’06, Amanda Morris ’06 and Kate Vanderhoof ’05 as bridesmaids; DJ Wolff served as a groomsman and Andrew Seal gave a reading. Many Dartmouth alums were in attendance, with particularly good showings from the Fencing Club, Casque & Gauntlet, the Free Press and Dartmouth ROTC. It was definitely a Big Green wedding!

Lisa Melvin and Charlie Kircher were married at a historic mansion outside St. Louis, Missouri, in July. Their wedding was attended by more than a dozen Dartmouth alumni, including ’07s Julie Dempewolf, Abby DeBellis, Emily Serrell, Ben Taylor, Sri Batchu, Dave Prout and Kevin Hudak. Lisa and Charlie began their relationship our freshman year through the Marching Band and as a tribute to their Dartmouth beginnings, the ‘Alma Mater’ was one of the final songs played at the reception.

Katherine Day, who is finishing up her master of fine arts in set design at Yale University, was recognized for her incredible costume designs in a glowing New York Times review of the Yale Repertory Theater’s production of The Master Builder. You can read the article here: www.nytimes.com/2009/09/27/nyregion/27theaterct.html.

Deborah Wassel is in her third (and final!) year at Fordham Law. She spent the summer working at the Westchester district attorney’s office in special prosecutions, which she says was absolutely incredible.

Joseph Kutney had a fantastic school year in 2008-09 as a seventh-grade math teacher at the East Bronx Academy of the Future. He was named Teacher of the Year, as voted by the entire school, staff and parents! During his hard-earned vacations he swam with sea lions in Uruguay with Nancy Zhao, learned how to kite surf in the Dominican Republic and surfed in San Diego. Dan Racic is well into his third year as an elementary technology teacher at P.S. 42 in the Bronx. He just completed his master’s in education.

ChiChi Aguoji has begun her M.B.A. at MIT Sloan. Alex Leonard is now living in the United Kingdom and beginning grad school at the London School of Economics. She would love to be in touch with any ’07s or other Dartmouth alums in the area. Sri Batchu is moving halfway around the world to Mumbai to start a new job.

Francesca Gazzaniga is a graduate student at the University of California at San Francisco. She is working in the laboratory of Elizabeth Blackburn, one of the three recent winners of the Nobel Prize in Medicine.

Will Rollins worked for California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger from June of 2007 through July of 2009, first as special assistant to the deputy chief of staff, then as assistant press secretary in Sacramento and later as deputy director of media operations in Los Angeles. He is now a first-year law student at the University of Southern California.

It was great to hear from all of you! Keep the updates coming.

Cheers.
