Class Note 2004

Issue

November-December 2024

Hi, ’04s! Happy Thanksgiving and happy holidays! It always amazes me how quickly the years go by now. It feels like the end of year gets here just as I am adjusting to the rhythm of our current year. But as the saying goes, such is life! Recognizing this can be a hectic time of the year, I do hope you can find a few quiet moments to yourself and have the time to read what our fabulous classmates have been up to during the last few months.

To begin, this past April a bunch of longstanding Dartmouth friends converged in Burlington, Vermont, for the Great North American Eclipse. Chester Areson, and his wife, Katie, graciously hosted a motley crew, including Gabe Calvi ’05, J.P. and Anna (Fleder) Connolly, Emily (Copeland) and Pete Land ’90, Owen Brennan and wife Christine, Paul Marino, and various children and pets. Casimir Liske’s presence was also felt. Kudos to the Aresons for facilitating a killer reunion!

Next, please congratulate Jessica Lawson who delivered a healthy baby girl, Lenora “Leni,” on May 20. Jessica was so sad she could not make it to our reunion, but clearly had a very good excuse. Cheers to you, Jessica, and I have no doubt motherhood looks good on you!

Mustafa Abdur-Rahim shared that he participated in the New Hampshire state games on August 18 and won five gold medals at the event. Well done, Mustafa, and please send tips for the rest of us!

Suhail Ahmed also wrote in to say that he is living in Columbus, Ohio, and graduated in May with a master’s in social work from Ohio State University. He is planning to stay in Columbus to work as a counselor and therapist. During the summer he spent time with his niece and nephew, who were visiting, including biking with his nephew on some trails in Springfield, Ohio. If that was not enough, he also attended some of the local festivals in Columbus. Congratulations on graduating, Suhail, and best of luck in your new role!

Finally, I am happy to report that Oliver Caplan will make his Carnegie Hall debut on November 11. The Oratorio Society of New York will be performing his choral piece, Cloud Anthem, a setting of poetry by Richard Blanco, President Obama’s inaugural poet. Bravo, Oliver, on your accomplishment, and I have no doubt the performance will be breathtaking!

And now I must bid you adieu, ’04s. But do not fear, I will be back in the new year! Here’s hoping you have a glorious holiday season and wonderful end to your year with lots of memories you can share with all of us. Talk to you in 2025!
