Bruce Alden Pattee ’54

Bruce Alden Pattee ’54, M.D., passed away on August 18, 2016, at his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Bruce came to Dartmouth from Denver, where he attended East High School. At Dartmouth he was a member of the Dartmouth Outing Club and Jack-O-Lantern. He graduated from Dartmouth Medical School and then obtained his M.D. from the University of Michigan Medical School. Bruce stayed in Ann Arbor, Michigan, for his internship, residency in internal medicine and for an additional year for a fellowship in cardiology. He then served for two years in the U.S. Navy as chief medical officer at the Naval Home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1964 Bruce returned to Colorado, settling in Colorado Springs, where he started a solo practice in internal medicine and cardiology. In 1969 he joined two other doctors to practice as associates in internal medicine. The group in 1994 became the founding members of Penrose-St. Francis Medical Group. During his 40 years of medical practice, Bruce served as chief of staff at Penrose Hospital and held leadership roles in various organizations. He was an instructor at both Michigan and Colorado schools of medicine and was elected a fellow of the American College of Medicine. He retired in 1998, enjoying travel abroad and auditing classes at the University of Colorado. After retirement he served as chief medical officer at Odyssey Hospice. Bruce is survived by his wife, Lynn, and children Mark, Thomas and Anne. His son, James, predeceased him.
